Producer and Director, Krisstian de Lara, speaks about El Flaco, a short documentary he directed in Juarez, Mexico. A film about a male prostitute that makes a living working in the dark and gloomy streets of Downtown Juarez.

The interview begins with Krisstian answering questions such as how was it like to film El Flaco, “I have a funny anecdote. I knew I wanted to do something about prostitution in Mexico, but not just any story about prostitution, because, I feel like a lot of people do that. I wanted to go a little bit further, so I decided to do it about male prostitution, which I knew it was happening in Downtown Juarez. I’ve seen it.” Krisstian continues describing his endeavor, “I brought my dad with me. We went to Downtown Juarez and drove around to look for possible stories because, technically, that’s how you find the good ones.” Krisstian chuckles, “We stopped very close to a corner where two gentlemen were just just standing there looking around, you know, very strangely. This was very late at night too, and I remember looking at my dad and asking, ‘Okay, who’s gonna go talk to him?’ How do we even do this? And neither one of us wanted to go.” Krisstian goes into further detail about how he managed to hire the male prostitute for the project.

As the interview progresses, Krisstian also answers questions such as how important it was to create an atmosphere within the film and what he hopes to achieve with this film. Krisstian speaks about his collaboration with music composer Maxwell Sterling and how the music played an essential part in achieving that maximum experience that only a film can create.

Krisstian concludes by hoping to show audiences how connected the United States and Mexico are and showcasing the forgotten voices of society,

And with the hope of giving a voice to the people whom society often ignores.
