Producer and Director, Krisstian de Lara, speaks about El Dragón, a short documentary he directed in Juarez, Mexico. A film about Jorge, a fire breather also known as El Dragon, that makes a living working on the dangerous streets of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

The interview begins with Krisstian answering questions such as how was it like to film El Dragón, “Sometimes I believe that this project came out of pure luck. I remember I only had access to the camera that I wanted to shoot this with on a Thursday, and that day I went to Juarez, and look for a fire breather and Juarez is the town I grew up in, and I’ve seen fire breather sporadicly is not like you can find them every single day. So, it was kind of crazy for me to think that I was gonna go and find something and just shoot it.” Krisstian continues describing his anecdote, “So, I got pretty lucky when I found Jorge. I talked to him and asked him if I could a project and have me following him around the city or around the intersections of the streets. He was very happy to do it, and I promised to him I was gonna give him a copy [of the film.]” Krisstian scratches his head humorously, “I haven’t seen him ever since or any other fire breather after I filmed this.” Krisstian concludes thinking that things happen with the right people at the right time.

As the interview progresses, Krisstian also answers questions such as the difficulties of filming in traffic and how he almost got run over by a vehicle. Krisstian concludes by sharing what he learned from El Dragón and the hopes audiences will learn from him as well,

El Dragón can give us a very valuable lesson. He has been throwing fire for around 13 years and almost died doing it and he continues to do it, but he sees light at the end of the tunnel, there’s hope. So, that one of the biggest lessons that I take from him and hope audiences will connect with.
